“Those who live in the memories of their loved ones are never
dead, they are only far away” - Immanuel Kant

Mum and Dad spent 65 years together, and were still as much in love at the end.

She had a fantastic life. From spending the war in a basement full of all the books Hitler had banned, but which had been removed by her father for safe keeping. She left Germany for England when 21. Her and dad travelled Europe and enjoyed London while they were young and free.

She drove fast and picked up me and my fellow long haired friends from gigs. When she retired she volunteered to drive the 'old folks' around in a mini bus.

She decided to do an English O level and got an A at the age of 67.

She was brilliant and fun and full of life and energy and I miss her so much.

Rest peacefully, you still live in my memories and the stories I will keep telling about you xxx

Maria died peacefully at Basingstoke Hospital, Hampshire, during the early hours of 7 January 2017.

Never forgotten.

Cards on Mum and Dad's Diamond Wedding Anniversary (28 February 2013), including one from the Queen!

Our Golden Wedding. We have managed to reach another milestone; on the 28th of February we completed the 50th year of our marriage.

Our Golden Wedding celebration went a lot better than I had thought, mainly thanks to our lovely daughter. We (meaning me) had no wish to have a big celebration, it was our day and we were going to have a quiet do by ourselves in nice surroundings. The children had other ideas and we eventually came to a compromise agreement.

To avoid getting caught in surprises I booked rooms at a hotel at the seaside for a celebration dinner and breakfast. Susi had in the meantime been in secret talks with my sister and husband John and they were waiting for us when we arrived in the hotel bar for pre-dinner drinks.

It was a total surprise, I was momentarily speechless and the conspirators were very pleased with themselves. It was a lovely surprise and the evening was a great success.

On the next day we travelled around the surrounding area of Dorset where we often used to spend our summer holidays.
